Mark is a self-taught
artist who took an interest in art, “When I first grabbed a
crayon.” It was at the age of six when he sold his first original
artwork for ten dollars to his elementary school teacher. Mark
recognized that he has a gift to draw and paint and as a result he
pursued this creative path. Mark’s approach regarding artisan work
is that everyone has a talent and that one has to explore one’s
individual talents and abilities. The mediums in which Mark works
with are charcoal, acrylic, airbrush, pastels, oils, and sculpting.
Charcoal is what he is most recognized for. The focal point to his
technique is the precision of realism for each subject’s eyes. He
incorporates tipis into the format because it illustrates the
security and warmth of home. The message that Mark wants to convey
in his illustrations is a historical perspective of indigenous
people and wildlife. Mark has also painted several murals for
Native American casinos. |
