2016 CULTURAL CAPITAL FELLOW

2009 ARTIST IN BUSINESS LEADERSHIP FELLOW

Motivated by her daughter’s desire to dance, Beverly learned to bead beautiful traditional buckskin dance outfits with their distinctive fully beaded yokes, bags, moccasins and leggings, in traditional Lakota beadwork patterns and styling. Twenty-one years later, her daughter continues to be a source of inspiration; Beverly is now an award-winning artist who designs, creates and beads their dresses. Just as important though, Beverly considers her ability to share her knowledge and skills with others, building in them a deep appreciation for her Lakota heritage.

Today, Beverly is one of only a few beadwork artists from her tribe still creating dresses in the most traditional form. She feels a strong sense of obligation to continue to learn even more historical knowledge through research of artifact collections in order to continue to share her skills with other tribal members, sustaining the Lakota way of beading.
