About

I believe that by my practicing art I can teach others to make pottery and again it will be part of our traditions and ceremonies. I believe that traditions are always in motion, and the historical part of this pottery form will help the people realize that our people were and are intelligent human beings. That we can emerge and feel comfortable in our identity and by looking into our hands and seeing our others hands, and her grandmother hands and so on, we achieve these gifts of knowledge. Bringing our voice through the art world in a positive, strong way will bring determination and pride back to the people.

"I believe that pottery is good for the well-being of our people. When artists gain regional or national recognition people tend to seek them out, perhaps to buy art or offer some work that may involve the community somehow. I believe that by Carrie's continuing to practice her artwork whatever media it may be she puts her heart and soul into it and that reflects in the work itself. Carries work touches the lives of people thus enriching and strengthening them.” – Sandra Nichols, Nominator
