weaving our traditions

2016 Jennifer Easton Community Spirit Awards

Through music, dance, poetry and film, we honored seven exceptional Native American artists from across the country who have worked selflessly to weave their ancestral knowledge into their communities’ present and future on Saturday, October 8 at the Performing Arts Center of Rapid City with the 2016 Jennifer Easton Community Spirit Awards.

The evening shined a light on the wisdom and generosity of these culture bearers, connecting us to our common values and Rapid City’s own community spirit.

On Saturday, October 8, exceptional Native performers took to the stage to honor and celebrate the 2016 Community Spirit Award honorees. This year's performers included Nammy Artist of the Year Winner Wade Fernandez, Hip Hop artist Frank Waln, A Cappella singers Ulali, The Git Hoan Dancers, and Dances with Words spoken word poets.

The show and awards celebration was followed by a dessert reception catered by The Sioux Chef
