Participants will engage in various projects, including crafting rawhide belts and boxes, acrylic painting, knife sheaths, bows, and other weapons. The instructor will blend traditional teachings with modern techniques for each project. The program will also include harvesting a buffalo and utilizing all parts to create items such as headdresses, weapons, art, and toys.
Dates and Times, 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM:
February 10, 12, 24, & 26, 2025:
Harvest a buffalo and utilize every part during the workshops. Distribute the meat to participants and demonstrate the preparation of hide, meat, and bones. Explore traditional uses, including preparing for Taniga and crafting weapons.
March 3, 5, 17, 19, 24, & 26, 2025:
Continue preparing the hide, skull and begin the buffalo headdress making along with teaching why these headdresses were made. Continue preparing the hide. Research on design and history. Prepping the bones for knives, paintings, and toy making. Continue work on weapons.
April 7, 9, 21, & 23, 2025:
Work on finishing the hide and cutting it for more headdresses.
