Artist-In-Residency Program
The Oglala Lakota Artspace Artist-in-Residence (AiR) Program is designed to support Oceti Sakowin culture bearers and artists working in the continuum of Lakota art, historically, traditionally, and contemporarily, to develop their practice and build collaborations with local artists and the community.
residencies
Residencies are available for two to six weeks, including living accommodations, a food stipend, a workspace, a material stipend, transportation to and from the residency space, and uninterrupted time to concentrate on creative practice. The residency is open to visual artists, writers, composers, choreographers, interdisciplinary artists, performance artists, and collaborative teams, with established or emerging artists from Oceti Sakowin Bands are encouraged to apply.

OLA Artist-in-Residence (AiR) Objectives
- Increase community access to resources (Cultural knowledge, Networks, Creative spaces)
- Deepened cultural identity and community cohesion
- Bring together an intergenerational audience
- Strengthen the connection to cultural homelands and culture
Residency Duration & Dates
- May-October 2026
- Duration: 2 - 4 weeks.
- Selected artist will work with Oglala Lakota Artspace to finalize residency dates based on desired times and availability in the months of 2026
- The artist must be comfortable working in a semi-open studio where the public can interact with the artist during public hours and work in an engaging environment.
Disciplines and Materials
- Culture Bearers and artists of all visual, literary, music, performance, or media arts disciplines may apply
- Artists working in most media will be considered.some text
- Artists working with toxic materials, hazardous machinery, etc., will not be considered due to limitations within the building.
Opportunities for Support
We are happy to assist applicants. OLA will host support webinars and offer opportunities to connect with staff throughout the application season to ask questions, receive technical support, and receive coaching.

SUBMIT AN APPLICATIONAPPLICANT Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be an enrolled member or provide proof of lineal descendency of Oceti Sakowin Bands.
- Applicants may be emerging or established culture bearers and/or artists.
- Applicants must be practicing artists
- Current studio artist tenants are not eligible to apply.
- Must have submitted a Final Report for any previously awarded FPF fellowship, grants, or support.
INELIGIBLE FOR SUPPORT
- Projects, groups, or organizations affiliated or sponsored by colleges or universities, Student work completed for academic credit or as part of an academically supported project, program, or residency
- Artists/Culture Bearers who received a residency in the previous year
- Artists/Culture Bearers who have a fellowship with FPF in the concurrent year as the residency
- Artists/Ensembles who have outstanding reports for previous FPF support/grant
- Current OLA studio artist tenants are not eligible to apply; Please contact leslie@firstpeoplesfund.org to discuss other potential opportunities.
