Participants will learn quillwork techniques such as wrapping, platting, back stitch and sewing quills. Attendees will also learn how to clean quills, dye quills, and sort quills. Participants will learn how to identify plants for natural plant dyes while learning the historical content of quillwork pre-1800s.

The instructor will blend traditional teachings with modern techniques for each project. The program will also include harvesting a buffalo and utilizing all parts to create items such as headdresses, weapons, art, and toys.

Open for all ages! The Weekly Drum Circle hosted on Wednesdays aims to be a safe-space for anyone wanting to learn or practice singing on and around the drum. Hosted by singer and knowledge bearer Santee Witt, the drum circle welcomes anyone who can make it to the Oglala Lakota Artspace on Wednesday evenings from 7-8pm.

This workshop series will be held every Wednesday and will focus on singing Lakota songs on the drum, wether they be traditional songs, prayer songs, sundae songs, powwow songs, or other styles of singing on a group-drum and or/ hand-drum. The teachings and meanings behind these songs will be discussed. A safe place will be held for all ages of participants to receive the opportunity to learn how to sing.

First Peoples Fund's two-day trainings give artists real-world tools and detailed resources to navigate the arts industry and become successful entrepreneurs. The training is intended for emerging and seasoned artists alike.

At the training, we will work with you to help you grow your arts business. You will have an opportunity to participate in the following activities:

• Express your vision and values that will ultimately become the principal foundation of your business.

• Determine your art marketing, business and financial management abilities using self-assessment tools.

• Budget and establish a successful pricing structure.

• Market your business using a variety of approaches and tools.

• Create your mission statement and present your artwork.

This program is being offered for FREE and IN PERSON on October  9-10, 2025 from 9:00am-4:30pm with a 1 hour lunch break (lunch provided).

The Leather Work Sessions will teach participants to make bags, wallets or belts. The first two sessions will cover design and cutting.  Using leather work tools, the following two sessions will then allow participants to learn carving and tooling.  Painting and Dyeing will then be demonstrated in the next two sessions.  The  final sessions will give participants the opportunity to assemble and complete their final leather work project.

Pre survey will be completed to determine the participants knowledge of sewing.Participants without any knowledge of sewing will learn how to use a sewing machine and all sewing accessory instruments. Participants with basic knowledge of sewing will familiarize themselves with the sewing machines and sewing accessory instruments. All participants will pick sewing projects offered in this series. The topics offered for the 2025 Sewing circle are: Ribbon shirts and skirts, Lakota Women's dance regalia appliquéd leggins, mocs, yoke/cape, hair ties, belts. T/inipi or Lakota Traditional dresses, men's Lakota dance appliquéd side drops, cuffs, leg and arm bands, mocs. Shawls both ribbon and fringe. Women's Lakota dance leggins, mocs, belts, yoke/cape, hair ties. Pre-made kits will be provided.
