Jennifer Neptune
About
Jennifer Neptune is a Penobscot basketry & beadwork artist who has won national awards for her artwork. She specializes in weaving ash and sweetgrass baskets, and working with glass beads and silk ribbons to recreate Penobscot items such as clothing, hats and bags that exist in outside collections to her community. Jennifer currently runs the Penobscot Nation Museum, makes baskets with elders, teaches workshops on beading and basketry, and takes community members and visitors on medicinal plant walks.
“It is said we weave a bit of our spirit into each basket we create. I hope my baskets reflect the love, respect, and connections I hold to the weavers before me, the places that I gather, the plants and trees that I weave with, and the community I come from.”
