BIOGRAPHY
I am Samone Last Horse, an Oglala Lakota, born and raised on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. My journey in higher education began in 2016 at Black Hills State University, as a first-generation student and participant in the JumpStart program. In 2022, I rebegan my educational journey at Oglala Lakota College, pursuing a double degree: an Associate of Arts in Tribal Law and a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology.
My endeavors at Oglala Lakota College have included annual participation in the American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC), engagement in the prestigious Leadership program developed by Harvard and UMass, and an agriculture internship focused on researching, restoring, and promoting traditional teachings in agriculture and herbalism. I have presented my work at the First American Land-Grant Consortium (FALCON) and am currently serving as a member of the Eagle Nest Local College Board.
Outside of my academic work, I dedicate my time to exploring my passion for music, which has always played a central role in my life as a form of self-expression or expanding my other interests in writing, photography, and film.
Beyond my roles as a student and professional, I am a proud aunt. My nieces and nephews are my pride and joy. My work and educational pursuits are deeply motivated by a desire to help create a better future for them.
