John Paul Hodge

Cherokee Nation

About

John Paul Hodge is an independent singer-songwriter and certified Cherokee Nation artist, born in Ukiah, California. Known for his soulful voice, biting lyrics, and fluid blending of genres, John Paul’s music reflects a complex identity shaped by both heritage and geography. Though his grandmother spoke fluent Cherokee, the language was not passed down, leaving his family to navigate life as “lost Cherokees” in California — forging a path as part of a new generation of mixed California Indians. Deeply rooted in community, John Paul performs at events such as the Alcatraz Island Sunrise Ceremony, the Indigenous Red Market in Oakland, and Big Times and Powwows with Pomo and Ohlone relatives. He will perform at the 2025 Cherokee National Holiday. His growing catalog is available on all major streaming platforms and his business website.
