Nawahineokalaʻi Lanzilotti (she/her/ʻoia)– Nawahine is a sound artist and director from Mānoa, Oʻahu and the founder of nonprofit Pulse Oceania–an indigenous performance incubator dedicated to advancing health equity and economic independence through experimental creative practice rooted in aloha ʻāina. Her performances with cello, voice, and electronics are shaped by her varied training in Hawaiian, European, North Indian, and American classical, contemporary, and folk performance traditions. Nawahine explores transformations of sound inspired by the transformations of light across the clouds, rains, and mountains of Hawaiʻi’s ʻāina (land). The survival of Nawahine’s ancestors from throughout Asia, Europe, and Oceania, all lead to her standing today as a kanaka maoli celebrating and advocating for the future sovereignty of indigenous culture, community, and lands. From 2024-25, Nawahine was a Culture of Health Leadership Institute (CoHLI) Fellow through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the National Collaborative for Health Equity.
