Shawna Shandíín Sunrise

Diné (Navajo)/Kewa (Santo Domingo Pueblo)

About

I am the daughter of Bill & Pearl Sunrise and was raised as a 5th generation Diné (Navajo) weaver through the matrilineage of my mother and Traditional performance and organizing from my father who was Kewa (Santo Domingo Pueblo). As a weaver, filmmaker, educator, multi-media installation artist, performance art, actress, photographer, TV producer/director, radio DJ, and community organizer I wear many hats in my community.

I am a graduate of the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) and received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). Currently I am a working Artist, Independent Contractor in Art Education & Native Media Organizer. I also own an Indigenous Design Company called “Make It Beautiful Designs” “Nizhónígo Anílééh” (In Diné/Navajo Language). The work I am creating is utilizing positive tools and methods to keep in balance & movement with all our Indigenous Artist communities across the world. And become an asset to more communities across the country and world.
