About

Lee Moquino is a seventh generation potter and is an enrolled member of Zia Pueblo. Lee learned to make micaceous pottery from his traditional godfather, the late Felipe Ortega-Apache medicine man. He apprenticed under him for many years learning stories, language, culture and pottery. Having perfected the clay craft for the past 25 years, Lee now leads pottery workshops where he engages learners of all ages in transferring the wisdom and knowledge of pottery building. Lee has won several awards across numerous art markets and festivals. In 2020 he co-founded a local nonprofit organization- Indigenous Knowledge Collective; the collective serves people in New Mexico and Arizona in a Native lead environment dedicated to building educational models of language,arts and indigenous culture. Most recently he focuses much of his time organizing and hosting traditional educational activities that are at risk of being lost.
