Kellen Trenal (pronounced like "Chanel") is a visual artist, performer, alumnus of the University of Notre Dame, and holistic wellness practitioner, born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. Kellen embraces their Black and niimíipuu (Nez Perce) ancestry to empower their creations across multiple industries. Kellen shares their (he)artwork through Trenal Original, a small business focused on traditional arts. Kellen is an awardee of the inaugural cohort of 2021 LIFT- Early Career Support for Native Artists Program of the Native Arts and Culture Foundation and the 2024 Artist-in-Residence Program at The Institute of American Indian Arts. Kellen’s traditional artwork is also featured in the 2024 Horse Regalia Exhibit at the Nez Perce National Historic Park in Spaulding, ID. Kellen has led workshops on traditional arts at colleges, universities, and Tribal communities throughout the inland Northwest. Most Recently, Kellen rejoined the pow wow circle, refurbishing regalia previously worn by his late grandfather.
