Alfreda Beartrack-Algeo, is an enrolled citizen of the Oceti Sakowin, Kul Wicasa Oyate, Lower Brule, South Dakota where she was born and raised. Alfreda is an artist and author. She has eight published children’s books and teen novels and is an active member of the National League of American Pen Women, and the Oceti Sakowin Writers Society. Her artwork and videography have won numerous awards and are represented globally in various libraries, museums, art galleries, and private collections. Alfreda holds multiple degrees and certifications, including Master of Arts from University of South Dakota and Doctor of Management from University of Phoenix. Her wide range of professional experience includes employment with the Centers for Disease Control and Indian Health Service to teaching and serving on multiple federal, state, university, and tribal boards. Alfreda states, “I am a multifaceted artist with a passion for creativity and imagination. I love interweaving history, culture, and contemporary subjects into stories that open eyes and hearts.” Although Alfreda stays busy writing, creating art, and managing her onsite gallery at her home in Palisade, Colorado she keeps close ties with her Kul Wicasa family and tribal community.
