I have been making baskets since I was 8 yrs old and mine is the 7th generation of basketmakers in my family. I first learned to weave from my mother Theresa Secord, a 2009 FPF CSA. As a youth, I attended many Maine Indian Basketmakers Alliance (MIBA) community basketry workshops and festivals, markets over 20 yrs, so I had access to a number of Wabanaki artists and teachers. Two years ago, I became apprentice to Jeremy Frey, a Passamaquoddy basketmaker and 2012 ABL fellow. I’m also his studio worker, helping to prepare weaving materials; including cutting down ash trees, pounding the logs, splitting, scraping and gauging the wood. Last year, I participated in my first Santa Fe Indian Market in August 2024, as an adult juried artist and was honored to win Best of Basketry with my entry, entitled, Embers. Since then, I’m also weaving baskets for museum commissions/exhibitions.
