Richard D. York is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. He lives in Sequoyah County on Cherokee Nation reservation. He received his BFA in Painting and Photography from Boise State University and earned his MFA in Visual Studies from Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) in 2014. While attending PNCA, he was a recipient of their MFA in Visual Studies Merit Scholarship for 2012-2014 and  participated in a Caldera Residency in Sisters, Oregon in 2013. Richard’s art was included in the High Desert Museum’s annual Art in the West exhibitions in 2019, 2020 and 2021. He is a 2021 recipient of Native Arts and Cultures Foundation’s LIFT Award as part of their inaugural cohort of 20 artists. In 2022 Richard was one of five Native artists selected by Google to design four Google Chrome Themes & Chromebook Wallpapers for Native American Heritage Month.
